Located in the heart of Loulé, the recently opened In The Pink is an international contemporary photography gallery which is currently hosting its second exhibition, dedicated to American photographer, Steve Schapiro.
Schapiro (1934-2022) captured key moments of modern American history starting in the 1960s with Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential run and the struggle for racial equality. His photographs have graced the covers of magazines such as Time, Life, Vanity Fair, Paris Match and many others.
Besides his career as a photojournalist, Schapiro also achieved a reputation as an excellent portraitist. He photographed many actors, musicians and artists, such as Barbra Streisand, David Bowie and René Magritte and accompanied Muhammad Ali as well as Andy Warhol.
The In The Pink gallery was born after the restoration of a centenary iconic 3-storey building. The venue has three light-filled rooms with high ceilings, perfect for photography exhibitions.
The newest art photography gallery will certainly enhance the vibrancy of Loulé and the Algarve as In The Pink wants to run a yearly and ongoing exhibitions programme, in addition to bringing together a community with an interest in art.
