Duarte Cunha appointed GM of Viceroy at Ombria Algarve
Duarte Gonçalves da Cunha has been appointed General Manager of first five-star Viceroy hotel in Portugal – the Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, located in the Loulé municipality, due to open later this year.
Duarte Gonçalves da Cunha graduated in Hotel Management and Strategic Marketing from Les Roches Hotel Management School in Switzerland. With over 20 years of professional experience in the hospitality sector, he has been involved in various projects worldwide, shaping his career across 4 continents and 9 countries. Throughout his career, he has worked for Amanresorts in four countries - Morocco, Indonesia, Philippines, and Montenegro – and also gained experience in Southern Spain at Finca Cortesin. Since 2020, Duarte Gonçalves da Cunha has served as General Manager of Octant Douro (Discovery Hotel Management).
Specializing in hotels with exceptional service, the new GM of Viceroy at Ombria Algarve stands out for his creative and innovative approach. Located 7km north of Loulé, Ombria, with a total investment of around 300 million euros by Finnish Pontos Group, is a new sustainable low-density development, with the opening of the first phase scheduled for 2024.
The project includes a 5-star hotel to be managed by Viceroy Hotels & Resorts – the Viceroy at Ombria Algarve – with 76 rooms and 65 fully furnished and equipped 1 and 2-bedroom apartments (of which 80% are already sold), 8 restaurants & bars, pools, conference centre, spa, and kids club. Ombria also features an 18-hole golf course - already open - designed by architect Jorge Santana da Silva, and two other real estate phases currently on the market – Oriole Village at Ombria and Alcedo Villas at Ombria – including apartments, townhouses, and detached houses ranging from T1 to T7.
